A FEW WORDS

L.A. Mood release ‘Casa Diablo‘, the first single from their second album, Golden Age, due in 2026 via Cheersquad Records & Tapes.

L.A. Mood is the solo project of Melbourne-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Dave Mudie. Formerly the full-time drummer for Courtney Barnett, Dave has played in upwards of 40 other bands and counting— for him, touring downtime means diving into studio projects and playing local gigs.

Alongside writing and recording his own music, Dave played drums on Jess Ribeiro’s 2019 album LOVE HATE, recorded Jade Imagine’s debut single ‘Stay Awake’, and played on releases from Super American Eagle (alongside Brent DeBoer of The Dandy Warhols), Cannon, Baby Blue, and Evan Dando (The Lemonheads).

The tantalising first single from Dave’s new, second L.A. Mood album, is ‘Casa Diablo’. Written on holiday in Mexico and recorded at Revolver Studios in Portland, Oregon, the song blends catchy psych rock with hand-clapping pop enthusiasm, exploring themes of mystery, transformation, and the allure of the unknown. It features Bob Harrow (Super American Eagle) on vocals and is mixed by Collin Hegna (The Brian Jonestown Massacre).

“This song represents a journey into a surreal, dreamlike world where reality and fantasy blur together,” says Dave. “It was inspired by late-night drives, neon-lit streets, and the idea of a place that exists somewhere between heaven and hell.”

The amazing, trippy video was created by Little Richard’s Almanac, an art collective founded by Ron Laboray and Niki Elliott in Asheville, North Carolina. To date, LRA has collaborated with well-known musical artists to create animated music videos for The Brian Jonestown Massacre (Berlin), Federale (Portland), L.A. Mood and Super American Eagle (Australia). Their animations are a stream-of-consciousness collage, responding to the musicians’ music.
