A FEW WORDS

Melbourne rock band Super American Eagle release ‘Anxiety Nightie‘ the first single from their forthcoming 2nd album on Cheersquad Records & Tapes.

Super American Eagle is a turbo-charged rock trio comprised of Immigrant Union members Brent DeBoer (The Dandy Warhols) on drums, singer/guitarist Bob Harrow, and Dave Mudie (L.A. Mood, the Courtney Barnett band) on bass.

The band’s origin can be traced back to a one-off Immigrant Union performance in a stripped-down three-piece format in New York in the early 2020s. That night, the chemistry was undeniable, and Super American Eagle soon took flight. From a lightning moment of musical connection, the band has built a thrilling, fuzz-filtered sound of urgent and essential psych and super heavy rock vibes.

Following up their debut 2023 self-titled album, the new heavy, psych-sludge groove of a single, ‘Anxiety Nightie’, is as the title suggests, about having fucked up anxiety. “Many times it gets worse during the night… like putting on an anxiety nightie,” explains Harrow. “You can try and drink and med it away but at the end of the day you should probably just go for a run, run, run.”

The brilliant video clip for the single was created by Little Richard’s Almanac, an art collective founded by Ron Laboray and Niki Elliott in Asheville, North Carolina. To date, LRA has collaborated with well-known musical artists to create animated music videos for The Brian Jonestown Massacre (Berlin), Federale (Portland), L.A. Mood, and Super American Eagle (Australia). The animations are stream-of-consciousness collages responding to the musician’s contributed track.

Super American Eagle recorded their new album on The Beatles’ Abbey Road Studios desk at Frying Pan Studios at MONA in Tasmania, with engineers Chris Townend and the band’s trusty accomplice, Jake “Fever” Holmes. Like their debut album, the recordings were mixed and mastered by the esteemed Melbourne-based hip-hop producer, Sean Latino.

The band’s name, “Super American Eagle,” was an inspired choice, a moniker originally coined by Courtney Taylor-Taylor of The Dandy Warhols, which had been bestowed upon DeBoer years prior.

Super American Eagle has toured the world with Jet and shared stages with notable acts such as Rocket Science, Grace Cummings, The Southern River Band, Superjesus, and the legendary Melbourne ensemble, The Meanies. They have also cultivated a strong presence in the local music scene with a residency at both the Old Bar and Shotkickers, as well as a rad as set at the Cherry Rock Fest.
