The first taste of Melbourne band Billy Peril’s forthcoming debut album, on Cheersquad Records & Tapes, was ‘The Whitest Bread’, an infectious slice of minimal art pop— skeletal and poetic, with a gentle sonic euphoria.

Single number two, ‘My Kind Of Madness’, starts with Will Dyer embracing ‘madness’ before a glorious tumble of chiming guitars and organ take flight. There’s a homespun indie rock quality to the imminently hummable riffs, the song stating its case as a lost gem from The Go-Betweens or The Bats.

Dyer describes the song as, “the sound of choosing chaos over comfort — a life split across opposite ends of the clock. Improvising in a foreign tongue, the risks, the return, the magnification of loss. The kind of connection that drags you back, again and again, to a life you can’t quite make work. Exactly my kind of peril.”
