A FEW WORDS
Cheersquad Records & Tapes and Desert Highways are proud to present the new single and video “Odd Couple” from the revamped incarnation of Link Meanie’s DIY pop project Bagful of Beez.
“Odd Couple” follows the previous single “Fever Dream“, and like its predecessor, it is taken from the band’s soon to be announced new album. The band has announced a combined single launch with Link’s brother Ross McLennan’s new band Heir To The Squandered Millions (whose new single “Here They Come Again” came out yesterday) which will take over the upstairs at the Tote on Thursday July 16.
Link explains the recent changes to the band: “Bagful of Beez is now a full band, so no more glitching backing tracks and more band members which is handy for gang fights.”
Indeed, it was most likely (linkly?) the glitching backing tracks that brought Bagful of Beez undone originally, when it was just a Link solo thing. Even when he first brought Matt into play drums, there were still backing tracks, and they still screwed up. Now it’s a full band – Matt Cotter (Even), Meghan Maike (Meghan Maike and the Cactus Flowers) and Chip Wardale (Snapshot, Rat Kangaroo and more) – and Link couldn’t be happier.
As for the music, it’s still the super-smart, catchy and colourful pop that Link has been making for years.
Link explains what the new single is about:
“Fame is an occasional byproduct of artistic creation. Fame for fame’s sake is a pandemic that has eroded hearts and minds to the point where it’s hard to imagine an end to its resultant devolution. ‘Odd Couple’ reaches into a lucky dip of desperate influencers and pulls out a pathetic character whose failure is pitiable. Sigh.”
