The ridiculously talented yet criminally under-appreciated Jamie Coghill aka The Jimmy C is back with a new full length digital album, Pretending To Be A Person, released with help from the lovely folks at Cheersquad Records & Tapes. Last year (2025) saw a flurry of activity from The Jimmy C who released the critically acclaimed Refreshing album garnering praise and adulation and lots of radio play in America and Europe, and also a soundtrack album for the Austin, TX indie film Curse Of The Baby Eater. This new and somewhat more mature sounding effort from the one-person production powerhouse and multi-instrumentalist spans multiple genres and the emotional gamut from joy to despair yet always remaining hopeful and uplifting throughout. The 15 songs on Pretending To Be A Person range in style from the up-beat country-tinged opener, energetic power-pop indie rock, California dream core, classic seventies rock, quirky sixties pop, slowcore(?) indie, soul, proto-metal riffing, acoustic ballideering and eerie indie nihilism … just to name a few. There’s something different in every song on a Jimmy C album and entertainment value always outweighs self-indulgence.
