This album came about when Mushroom Records was clearing out old tapes and asked if we wanted 16 two-inch reels they still had in storage. Naturally, we said yes and rescued them from the junk pile.
Having no way to listen to them ourselves, we handed them over to Rick O’Neil, an award-winning producer, master engineer, and music industry legend, to see if he could digitise them. After being successfully baked and digitised, we were finally able to hear recordings that hadn’t seen the light of day in nearly 40 years. We were astounded by what we found; outtakes, alternate versions of tracks from ‘Highlights of a Dangerous Life’ and ‘Grown Up Wrong’, classic B-sides, and unreleased gems that are every bit as good as what made the final cut.
From there, the tracks went to Phil Punch – another veteran of the Australian music scene – who mixed them in his inimitable style to truly bring them to life. Finally, they went back to Rick for mastering. Both of these guys did an outstanding job, and we can’t thank them enough for making these songs sound so fantastic.
