TRACKLIST
A FEW WORDS
Following the recent singles ‘Earthquake‘, and the wild, tropical sound of ‘Monsoon’, Hobson Bay Coast Guard reveal the latest single from their forthcoming new album Weather Report.
‘Landslide’ gathers momentum on the back of one damn infectious bass line, nimble funk-juiced guitar strums, and a Krautrock rhythmic underpinning. It’s kosmische, it’s psyched, and it’s an earworm for both the mind and the feet.
“‘Landslide’ is one of our favourites on the record! The dynamic, upbeat rhythm but chill, floaty atmosphere really reflects all the best parts of our previous catalogue. Maybe this is the most ‘Hobsonsy’ Hobsons song to date!” says the band.
“The lyrics and the feel are about the flows and movements of land in times of adversity. What is supposed to be solid ground in your life can betray you with only a moment’s notice. This is similar yet different to our usual themes of the flows and movements of water, which you can definitely hear in the song.”
Casting their minds back to the recording process, the song combined some of the original demo tracks alongside the studio takes. “The track has a lot of whacky changes and asymmetric rhythms so it was one of the funnest yet most challenging to record,” they recall. “The original demo had a very similar atmosphere to the final version, and we actually ended up using a lot of the old vocal takes that we did through phone microphones instead of recording new ones. They just had a grittier, more improvisational feel that was hard to recapture.”
