A FEW WORDS

Link McLennan and Cheersquad Records & Tapes are excited to announce ‘Syco’, the first single from the first album that Link will be releasing under the new moniker Bagful of Beez. Link is the founding member and beloved frontman/singer and songwriter of seminal Australian acts The Meanies, Tomorrow People, The Bakelite Age and Sun God Replica, amongst others. Bagful of Beez is a melting pot of all those acts, and the results are astounding.

Link himself has said of the new single: “‘Syco’ is a less whiny, more objectively, self-analytical and humorous version of ‘Creep’ by Radiohead, except the music isn’t plagiarised.”

‘Syco’ is a brilliant and catchy slice of Linky-styled sycodelia.

Bagful of Beez’s first album ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Beatles’ is out October 22 and will be released on limited edition, marbled green 12” vinyl, black vinyl and digitally. Pre-order the album here.

Bagful of Beez music is a brilliant and eclectic mix of classic pop styles, and the result is the sort of everything-including-the-kitchen-sink approach that studio-enamored pop savants have been known to take ever since Todd Rundgren recorded “A Wizard, A True Star”.  Link recorded the album completely by himself, playing all instruments. He has played out solo with a drum machine as Bagful of Beez a couple of times in recent months, but has just enlisted Even drummer Matt Cotter to ensure a stronger live presence. (Even of course is also the second home of Link’s Meanies bandmate Wally, and Even’s Ashley Naylor has also performed with Link in the Meanies on occasion.)

“I have a strange feeling that the creation of my debut Bagful of Beez album was like feeding all the music of my past bands to an Asian palm civet (a weird cat/raccoon type creature), but instead of it shitting out an expensive coffee, it defecated a bunch of songs that are unique, exciting and cohesive. I’ve never felt so confident about a collection of my songs being so fully realised, and it leaves me with a powerful desire to keep creating and evolving within the wide parameters of Bagful of Beez. With the recent addition of Matthew Cotter (Even) on drums, it all feels perfectly satisfying.”Link McLennan
