TRACKLIST
A FEW WORDS
JAMES BAKER – Australian rock ’n roll legend, the godfather of Perth punk, co-founder of The Victims, The Scientists, Hoodoo Gurus, Beasts of Bourbon, Dubrovniks and more, the eternal KEEPER OF THE BIG BEAT – To mark 40 years since James released his first and for a long time only solo single, Cheersquad Records & Tapes is thrilled to present the first ever reissue of the single, ‘I Can’t Control Myself / Born To Be Punched’.
Featuring a pounding Troggs cover on the topside – James was the world’s biggest Troggs fan, and he would occasionally venture out from behind his drums (handing his sticks to Brad) to sing this one for an encore in his Hoodoo Gurus days – and a hilarious and raunchy New York Dolls-inspired original on the B-side (which sounds like a long lost Hollywood Brats track), the single was recorded not long after James and the Gurus parted ways. It features a young Tex Perkins on bass and James’ mate from Scientists and later Dubrovniks day, Rod Radalj as well as Tex’s mate Stu Spasm on guitars. Apart from being a classic and a milestone in James’s life of rock ’n roll, the single has further historical significance because it was the first ever release on Red Eye Records, and features brilliant cover art from Red Eye founder John Foy. With neither side having been available in any format for decades (indeed, since a 1990 Red Eye singles collection), this is an absolutely essential reissue which will be in high demand AROUND THE WORLD, so don’t think twice before ordering a copy!
The 7″ vinyl is available in limited edition (100 copies of each variant) opaque purple, opaque white, opaque burnt orange, dark recycled (almost black) and black.
