This second single from the upcoming ‘Refreshing’ album has been out in the world in its original low-fi incarnation since The Jimmy C’s 2009 CD album ‘Glamour & Fame’. But the chances of anyone having heard it are slim so, for all intents and purposes, this is a brand new song (that was written 17 years ago) presented in a fresh, and much better
recording.
The concept of The Jimmy C’s new album, Refreshing, is to take the best songs from The Jimmy C’s formative years (2004-2009) and present them anew with the benefit of over a decade of experience and musicianship and without the restrictions of recording to 4-track cassette tape and primitive mid-nineties recording software.
‘Don’t Cry’ was written at a time when The Jimmy C was constantly gigging playing drums with The Devilrock Four. Jimmy was, at the time, completely obsessed with The Zombies (and still is) and that heavily influenced the layers of vocal harmonies on this song. The Jimmy C hadn’t been writing for very long but this one turned out pretty damn good. The song itself lasts for barely a minute and changes gears into a rave-up outro. This new recording (and the others on ‘Refreshing’) finally do justice to the best of his early years of songwriting.
