A FEW WORDS
The Jimmy C – the one-man Melbourne power pop/pop-rock machine and home recording project of Jamie Coghill of Lava Fangs – today releases “The Back Roads to Ruin”, the first single from his forthcoming new album Refreshing, which is out June 13th.
Since 2005, the 47 year old Melbourne multi-instrumentalist, “drummer/songwriter”, husband and father Jamie Coghill has, as The Jimmy C, recorded 9 albums, 4 soundtrack albums for American independent film & T.V. and a few miscellaneous singles and E.P.s. He writes all the songs, plays all the instruments (except for a few rare guest spots) and records, mixes and masters it all himself. He even does his own graphic design. A completely sustainable hobby, Jamie makes music as well as balancing a day job and a family and has been performing live since 1994 in bands; Lava Fangs, The Devilrock Four, Fez Perez and Luxedo. Critically acclaimed and endorsed within the local music industry, The Jimmy C remains a secret treasure waiting to be discovered by the wider public.
Let’s let Jimmy explain the new single “The Back Roads To Ruin”:
“For all intents and purposes this song is brand new and unheard, but as with all the songs on the upcoming Refreshing album by The Jimmy C, this song was written 15 to 20 years ago – in this case specifically, 2008. The original low-fi recording was released on the CD album Glamour & Fame in 2009.
“‘The Back Roads To Ruin’ is a driving, heavy rock song written during a period when I was playing drums with The Devilrock Four. It’s about growing up in a dead end country town amongst closed minded people and the unacknowledged misery caused by such isolation and bigotry which often leads to suicide. Not a cheerful subject but it inspired a moody and heavy (yet melodic and somehow uplifting) rock song that I’m proud to have written and felt was worthy of refreshing with a more up to date recording.
